Why are you involved with Montessori education?

I am involved with Montessori because it is an education methodology of the heart, mind, body and spirit. I love that Montessori education ignites the fire that every child innately has and supports them, via freedom within limits, through the journey of learning and growing as a unique individual.

How would you describe what you do?

As the classroom assistant in Cooinda, I work with Michelle, Cooinda’s Guide, to foster a nurturing, stimulating and enjoyable learning environment. Throughout the day I support the students to work independently and collaboratively and, generally ensure the classroom runs effectively so that Michelle can focus on giving individual and small group lessons. Building connections with all of the students and their families is also a key aspect of my role, as is preparing the environment and modelling grace and courtesy.

What’s your favourite thing about your role?

Seeing the students grow and blossom as they develop their innate potential because of the distinctive Montessori environment.
