1.    Biography

Yasmin has worked in the mental health sector for a couple years, with previous experience as a mental health support worker and behaviour support practitioner. After finishing her degree and working her placement at MIC, she discovered a passion for counselling children and adolescents. Yasmin aims to bring the students to a safe space to express their needs, feelings and worries and aid them in overcoming their academic, social and mental health challenges to realise their individual strengths and success.

2.      Why are you involved with Montessori Education?

I was lucky to experience my Masters placement at MIC in early 2022 and fell in love with the school, students and the Montessori method.  As a counsellor, my therapeutic philosophy aligns with the Montessori philosophy of encouraging and supporting clients to discover themselves and their strengths.

3.      What year did you commence at MIC?

2022

4.     How would you describe what you do?

As a school counsellor, I assist students of all ages by providing support with their social, academic, and emotional wellbeing. I integrate different approaches depending on the developmental stages of each student. In the primary years, I utilise a more hands on, playful approach to counselling, looking at friendship difficulties, resilience, self-esteem and anxiety. For the adolescents, I focus on helping them develop their identity, to make sense of their feelings, thoughts and behaviours, offering strategies to cope amidst all the changes they experience throughout high school.

5.      What is your favourite thing about your role?

I love spending time and connecting with the students and seeing the growth within themselves!
