We are pleased to update the community on some changes to the College Board.

Firstly, we farewell Dr Liam Mayo and his family as they relocate to Melbourne. Special thanks to Liam for his chairmanship and governance renewal during his time as a Director. Significant improvements were achieved under his leadership which MIC has benefitted from in myriad ways. We wish him, Sarah, Cassidy and Patrick every success in their new home.

Secondly, Dr Amanda Bell AM has stepped down from the Chair role owing to increased professional and personal requirements; we thank her for her leadership and are pleased that Amanda will remain on the Board as a Director. As a result, I have been appointed as Chair and I very much look forward to contributing actively to the MIC community and continuing the good governance work set in place by Liam and Amanda.

Finally, two new Directors have joined our board this year. William Emms, a current parent, will be known to some of you already. William has a genuine entrepreneurial spirit with a broad background in small to medium-sized business ownership and to a lesser degree his experience extends into corporate business management & franchising. As a business owner in real estate sales and property management on the Sunshine Coast, he is well-positioned to add value to the Board’s deliberations and strategy. He is a devoted father of two students at MIC and, having viewed the College’s progress from inception to its current financially and ethically sustainable stage, William has an eagerness to contribute positively towards the continuity of MIC’s growth and development.

Lyn Stokes has also joined as a Director. She is a CPA and well-qualified governance leader with extensive experience in the not-for-profit sector. Lyn’s key areas of expertise include a high level of project management skills, including planning, communications, and execution; ability to guide and implement change and build organisational capability and responsiveness in a dynamic environment; long-term operational and financial planning in the education sector; and property and facilities management. Lyn has been Business Manager and Financial Controller for a leading independent school on the Sunshine Coast, and a successful Corporate Services Executive in the NFP/ NGO sector in Brisbane. Lyn is a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia with experience as a Non-Executive Director/Company Secretary on the Sunshine Coast Grammar School Foundation Board, and as a Finance Capital Advisory Committee Member of the Queensland Independent Schools Block Grant Authority.

We warmly welcome them both to the MIC Board.

Once again, on behalf of the Board I wish everyone an excellent 2025 at our College.

Warm regards
Kate

Kate Hemat-Siraky – Chair of the Board
